What salt air does to an MS grill
Mild steel rusts. Paint slows it down, but on a balcony facing the bay the salt reaches every scratch and joint, and within a few monsoons the welds bloom orange and streak down the wall. Keeping an MS grill looking decent in Vizag means repainting every year or two.
SS316 stainless cable — the marine grade used for invisible grills in Visakhapatnam — is made for exactly this exposure and needs no painting.
Cyclone wind
A solid grill panel catches wind. Tensioned cables present almost no surface to it, so the load on the fixings is much lower. With either system, what fails in a cyclone is the anchoring — which is why fixings must go into the structural slab and beam with stainless anchors, not into plaster.
Safety for children
Both can be child-safe when properly designed. MS grills are only as safe as their pattern — horizontal bars make a ladder. Invisible grills at a 2-inch spacing are too narrow for a child's head and offer no foothold to climb.
The view and the light
This is where most Vizag families decide. An MS grill turns a sea-facing balcony into a cage and cuts the light into the room. Invisible grill cables fade from view within days.
When an MS grill still makes sense
If security against intruders on a low floor is the main concern, a strong MS or stainless grille is a different kind of product. Invisible grills are designed for fall protection, not burglar-proofing.
Our recommendation
For a sea-facing flat above the ground floor where the goal is child and pet safety, invisible grills are the better long-term choice in Vizag. Book a free site visit and we will look at your balcony, check the parapet and slab, and give you the exact price for your requirement.
